Sleeping Beauty Inspired Editorial

I have always been inspired by Marius Petipa’s ballet, The Sleeping Beauty. The whole ballet is full of soft, delicate hand gestures but also completely difficult, strength requiring movements en pointe, agility, grace. It has stunning costuming, exquisite music, gorgeous scenery, and an iconic story line.

Creating this editorial completely based on the Sleeping Beauty ballet, I wanted to pull inspiration from ballet but not necessarily make it a ballet shoot. Kelly, from Botanique Floral created this ethereal installation on a grey backdrop, and other than that, we kept the shoot simple. No dress, no headpiece, no clothes. Yep, you heard right. We used a simple sheer silk to create movement and decided that everything else would be a distraction. I wanted to show the femininity that I am so inspired by in Sleeping beauty. Jen Lagers created a simple, yet luminous hair and makeup look that would add to this editorial but not distract from it. The end result was a glowing yet moody fine art boudoir session of one simple scene, feeling like a dream, sensual and mysterious.
